Get Ready to Learn, Skate & Score! We’re excited to announce the 5th Annual Learn to Skate & Hockey Skills Program, delivered in partnership with Hockey Calgary!
This fun, inclusive program is designed for newcomer youth ready to build confidence, learn new skills, and enjoy the game of hockey.

RECREATION ACCESS FOR NEWCOMERS

Are you or someone you know new to Calgary and aged 12–15? Join the FREE Recreation Access for Newcomers, in collaboration with the City of Calgary.

The program includes:

• Introduction to City recreation facilities and resources

• Visits to recreation facilities, parks, sports and arts & culture locations

• Activities such as swimming, skating, sports & more

• Support and learning opportunities using Calgary Transit

• Introduction to free and low-cost recreation opportunities

• Meet new friends and explore your community

• All supplies, snacks, and transit tickets included

YOUNG LEADERS PROGRAM

AGES: 15-18

The Young Leaders Program is a dynamic, conversation-based program designed for youth ages 15-18 who are ready to discover their strengths, grow as leaders, and make a positive impact in their community.

Through interactive discussions, activities, and group conversations, participants will develop confidence, strengthen their communication skills, and learn how to use their voice effectively. Youth will have the opportunity to build resilience, gain valuable volunteer experience, explore their potential, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their goals.

REALITY CHEQUE PROGRAM

In partnership with The Dollar Detectives, the Centre for Newcomers is bringing you an interactive, hands-on experience packed with learning, mentorship, and fun. Explore budgeting, saving, credit, investing, career development, entrepreneurship, and wellness—and get ready to put your skills into action!

ETHNICITY CATERING EMPLOYMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

EthniCity Catering and Café is a non-profit social enterprise at the Centre for Newcomers that provides Canadian work experience and training for immigrants and refugees. Trainees gain hands-on experience in a commercial kitchen and cafe, improve communication skills and employability skills during the program. INTRODUCTION TO CANADIAN LOGISTICS(ICL) MICROCREDENTIAL

ONGOING 

The program offers a three-week training designed to advance careers in Canadian logistics and provide a MicroCredential, alongside a one-week workshop series focused on employment and job search strategies. Participants will receive professional network support and job placement assistance. Eligibility requires individuals to be at least 18 years old, residing in Alberta, and either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or legally entitled to work or train in Canada. NEWCOMER THERAPEUTIC CRISIS INTERVENTION

ONGOING 

CFN's Newcomer Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Program aims to provide therapy support in first-language services for newcomer clients of any age within 24 hours of receiving a referral. As many newcomers won't call a helpline when in distress, this project will provide immediate therapeutic intervention within 24 hours of receiving the referral without waiting for an interpreter.
