REFUGEE STORIES

"You have to understand, no one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land"
 Warsan Shire, a British poet

Threats, persecution and possible death are what people face in their home nations, which makes them flee and seek refuge in safer countries. The life of a refugee is full of pain, turmoil and an unending trauma.

Canada has a long history of welcoming refugees and at the Centre for Newcomers (CFN) we provide refugees with opportunities to rebuild their lives, settle, and integrate.

The Centre is observing June as Refugee Awareness Month. We bring out stories of our clients from five countries - Syria, Eritrea, Iraq, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan - who witnessed war, mayhem, and destruction.
Through the various services and programs, CFN is proud to play a decisive role in helping our clients to find a sense of belonging as they recreate their lives in Canada.
