Immigrant Children and Youth

They are diverse, multi-cultural, multi-talented.  Just as newcomer adults need to adjust and integrate to their new lives in Canada, so do their children.  They also face numerous challenges: being new to Canada, learning to adjust to new ways of life.  Some adjust faster than others, but others may come with bruised and scarred memories. Programs for family and youth are designed to support the family to address the challenges and ease the transition.
Children and Youth programs at the Centre for Newcomers
Our family and youth programs:
  • The Colour Our World Program that will help you and your children learn more about Canadian life and feel at home in Canada.
  • Real Me Program that works with immigrant youth currently involved in gang-related activities, or at risk of becoming involved in those activities. Program staff help youth participants to reach their highest future potential, regardless of their past.
  • Youth Possibilities Program is for immigrant youth who have not yet been successful in work or school in Canada. Attendees will be supported to develop and begin to act on a career plan, to develop Life Skills and Employability Skills, and to practice their skills in a supported work placement with a local employer.
