Job Search workshops provide you with information and skills to guide you in your job search and find the position that suits your background and needs.
Employment Readiness
Five half-day sessions offered monthly aimed at motivating Income Support clients to gain better understanding of options, identify positive choices towards change and develop job search skills.
E-job Search
February 1-2; 8-9; 15-16, March 1-2; 8-9; 15-16

One week, half day workshop offered to permanent residents and refugees with very limited or without computer skills, where participants learn to use the computer and the internet in their job search.  Hands-on, basic computer training is provided:  setting up an email account, attaching documents to an email, searching internet job search sites, locating career information and employer information through the internet.

  • Developing resumes and cover letters that appeal to Canadian employers
  • Accessing employers and building network
  • Enhancing interview skills
  • Understanding labour market demands and trends
  • Establishing job objectives and finding the job fit
  • Canadian Workplace Culture
Other workshops include: Career and Education Planning; Alberta Employment Standards; Occupational Safety; Understanding Employment Insurance
Conducted in English and select first languages (Mandarin and Cantonese, Punjabi, Hindi/Urdu, Filipino, Arabic, Spanish and Vietnamese).
Registration Requirements
  • Must book an appointment with a Career Practitioner
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Unemployed or underemployed and looking for a job or training
  • English workshops – 2nd and 3rd week of every month: Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
  • Cover Letters and Resume Writing Techniques – First and last Wednesday of every month from 9am to 4:00pm.
  • First language workshops – select days and time (please see a Career Practitioner for the weekly schedule).

January 23 – 27, February 21 – 24, March 27 - 31
Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Five, full day exploration for better understanding about cultural differences in the workplace, effective employment communication skills, workplace protocol for telephone and email, feedback and team work.

Job Fairs and Employer Forums are also organized for job seekers to get access to relevant hiring information and employment opportunities from a pool of potential employers in various industries.

The Next Steps program includes Employability and Essential Skills workshops for one week, followed by focused individual sessions for getting and keeping employment. The program is designed to help Permanent Residents, with English levels of Canadian Language Benchmarks of 3-5
